How to make and send a song in iMessage

Open SendTunes from your conversation

Install SendTunes on your iPhone, then open the conversation in Apple's Messages app. Open the app drawer using the plus button and find SendTunes. Depending on your iOS version and app order, you may need to open the additional apps list.

Use the main SendTunes app if you want a fuller lyric-writing session. The extension is intended for a compact musical message rather than a long composition.

Make the message, then send it

Write the words you want to turn into a song. Choose the available musical settings and generate. Once it is ready, listen to the audio before adding it to the conversation.

• Keep the message short enough for the extension's input limit.
• Check the recipient and the words you entered.
• Listen to the finished song; names and unusual spellings may need another attempt.
• Use the extension's send action to insert the audio into Messages, then send the message.

What the other person receives

SendTunes inserts an audio attachment. The song is something the recipient can play in a compatible messaging app; they do not need access to your local SendTunes library.

iMessage features and attachment delivery depend on the recipient's device and conversation type. If you are sending outside iMessage, share the saved audio from the main app through a compatible service. Do not assume an iMessage-only interaction works identically over every messaging channel.

Send a song you already made

You do not have to create a fresh song for every message. Open a finished song from your SendTunes library and use its sharing options. Keeping the original lets you send it again, replay it, or save another copy.

For an important gift, export a backup. The library is stored locally, so removing the app can remove those local songs. A separate audio copy helps you keep a song beyond one installation.

If you cannot find the extension

Check that SendTunes is installed, that you are looking in Apple's Messages app drawer, and that you have opened the full apps list. App order and labels can differ by iOS version. Open SendTunes once, then return to the conversation if it is newly installed.

If generation or insertion fails, use the main app and share the finished audio from there. For account, credit, or generation problems, use the support page instead of repeatedly submitting the same song.
